The easiest, the quickest, the yummiest chicken stir-fry dish on your dinner table in just under 30 minutes! The super juicy, tender chicken with savory, luscious stir-fry sauce, this homemade Saucy Chicken & Onions Stir-Fry is even better (and healthier) than Chinese takeout!
As usual, we’ve been super busy (and exhausted) with work and travel for the past month. Everyday after work, all we want to do is to relax and not spend hours making dinner, something that I think a lot of people can relate to.
So we thought, what is the quickest meal to make that is simple yet filling? Stir-fries!
And how do you make such a quick and simple stir-fry dish more satisfying for your palate and your tummy? Lots of sauce!
To us, of the most delicious, most satisfying meals are Chinese stir-fry dishes with rich, savoury sauce that you can eat with a bowl of hot white rice. If that’s not comfort food I don’t know what is!
This Saucy Chicken & Onions Stir-Fry is even more attractive when you consider how much more healthy it is than Chinese takeout dishes. We only used two tablespoons of oil, replaced the sugar with honey, and used low-sodium soy sauce (and we didn’t add more salt to the dish). Plus, there’s no MSG (flavor enhancer) added.
This dish is pretty simple and straightforward to cook. However, there are a few key points that you shouldn’t overlook in order to get the most perfect Saucy Chicken & Onions Stir-Fry:
- Marinate the chicken pieces in soy sauce and cornstarch before cooking. This will make your chicken extra tender and flavourful.
- Adjust the amount of honey to add to the sauce depending on the sodium level of the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and chicken broth you use. You don’t the sauce to be sweet, you just want to add enough honey to balance out the saltiness from the other ingredients. A trick is to add the honey a little bit at a time while tasting to check for flavours.
Try this dish out if you’re looking for a simple, quick, but delicious weekday dinner. Once we discovered how to make this Saucy Chicken & Onions Stir-Fry, it was like YASSS no more slaving away in the kitchen after work for a decent, satisfying dinner!
